Scaly beak, legs and feet are most commonly caused by burrowing mites. The mites causing this condition are diagnosed by direct visualization or with a magnifying lens. Scrapings can be taken for microscopic examination. Once the mites are entrenched, the condition can become complicated by secondary infections by bacteria and fungi.
